Sadly just when things were looking like they were going to start settling, the political moves to settle the feud between Kibaki and Raila took a major setback yesterday when Kibaki appointed a cabinet unilaterally without negotiation or mediation. The appointment of the cabinet has inflamed tensions and there was violence again last night in Kisumu with 3 people reported to have been shot and killed by police.

The feedback from the Vima kids is that they are doing ok and our other project partners are safe for the moment but anxious for things to cool down. People are doing their best to stay indoors and out of trouble. Food and water continues to be a difficult issue but people are doing their best to cope. Meanwhile there is still a huge wave of refugees from the Kisumu camped around the police station in Kondele and elsewhere seeking protection from the ethnic clashes which are now commonplace.

The hope is for any kind of diplomatic progress and we will be watching carefully. More update to follow.
